School Visits

Our autumn term is fully booked…. Please get in touch about booking a session for your school in spring!


We can offer a number of sessions for Schools at Queenswood Country Park & Arboretum. You can choose from one of our school sessions below which link to the national curriculum or contact us for a session tailor made to your learning objectives
All of our sessions aim to be outdoors exploring the natural environment but we also have use of indoor, heated space in case of very wet and cold 

We can cater for Early Years, Key stage 1, Key Stage 2and Key Stage 3 conditions and our sessions are 2.5 hours long

Sessions for Early Years:

1) ‘It was a Cold Dark Night’. Suitable for the Autumn Term. Come and explore the woods to learn all about Ned the hedgehog, build Ned a home to hibernate in, go bug hunting for hedgehog food, and make a hedgehog from natural materials to take home. This session is based on the story book ‘It was a cold Dark Night’ by Tim Hopgood.

2) ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. Suitable for the Summer Term. Can you come and find caterpillars and other bugs that live in the woods? We will make pictures using fruit printing and cook a snack for the hungry caterpillar on the camp fire, as well as make your own pair of beautiful butterfly wings to take home! This session is based on the story book ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle.

Key Stage 1:

1) ‘Explore Autumn’ suitable for the Autumn Term. Queenswood is the perfect place to come and explore the seasonal changes at Autumn time. We will make beautiful land art using leaves, make a hedgehog hiberculum and cook a snack over the camp fire. Each child can find and plant an acorn to take home.

Key Stage 1 and 2:

1) ‘Buzz about Queenswood’ suitable for the Summer Term. Come and learn all about the importance of pollinators! Buzz about the woods playing pollinator games, construct pollinator habitats and explore Queenswood for the different sorts of pollinators that live and forage in the woods. We will sow pots of wild flower seeds to take home.

Key Stage 2:

1) ‘Wild about Wetlands’. Suitable for the Autumn and Summer Terms. Come to Bodenham Lake to explore this wonderful wetland habitat. Learn about migrating birds and go pond dipping to discover the fascinating world of creatures under water. We will discover how birds, pond life and other creatures are connected through food webs and how pollution might effect them.
