The Queenswood BioBlitz – a wildlife recording extravaganza!

Wednesday 6th July 2016

Ever wanted to know how to tell a vole from a shrew? A slow worm from a grass snake? A red admiral from a peacock? Then come along to Queenswood on Saturday 9th July and find out all the answers from the experts!

The Queenswood team are putting on a day of activities – open to all - as part of a Bioblitz: a 24 hour wildlife recording event. Starting with Mammal Mania at 7.30am with Mammal expert Dave Smith, activities run throughout the day, led by staff from Herefordshire Wildlife Trust and a host of expert local naturalists.

Join in with the Reptile Hunt, Buzzy Bees Tour or Tremendous Tree Trail and find out some fascinating facts while contributing to the number of species recorded. All activities will be tailored to their audience so young or old, expert or complete beginner, there will be something for everyone. Sessions all start at Base Camp which will be set up by the main buildings, no pre-booking is required, and it’s all free!

Alongside the activities, staff and volunteers from Herefordshire Wildlife Trust, Herefordshire Amphibian & Reptile Team and Herefordshire Mammal Group will be on hand all day while WildPlay will be running children’s activities too.

As well as being great fun, a BioBlitz is also a great way of seeing which species live at a site and if the habitat is being managed for their benefit. The BioBlitz will begin on Friday afternoon when four local schools, along with local Guides and Navigator groups, take part in a host of wildlife recording activities at the reserve.
